Location
Description of the location
COSTA CALIDA, IN TRANSLATION MEANING "COSTA CALIDA", ONCE WAS ONE OF THE SETTLEMENTS OF THE CARTHAGENIANS, THEN CALLED THEM "NEW CITY".
Thanks to the rich history of ancient Roman times and beyond, impressive architecture has been preserved in the main resort areas of Costa Calida. In general, the entire coast of Costa Calida is a paradise for families, a place where you can take a break from noisy cities and the frantic pace of modern life. The climate of Costa Calida is very mild. The sun shines here 320 days a year. The absence of industry and highly developed agriculture provide clean air filled with the aromas of flowers and fruits.
The presence of the Small Sea definitely makes Costa Calida the center of recovery on the Spanish coast. There are mud baths, health and spa centers here, due to the high content of iodine, salts and minerals, the waters of the Small Sea are famous for their healing properties, so those who want to improve their health should come here.
La Manga del Mar Menor - the resort is literally built around a natural lagoon, which was formed by a sand spit. There are no strong waves here, the water is always several degrees higher than in the Mediterranean Sea. All this creates ideal conditions for a holiday with young children.
Puerto de Mazarrone - 35 kilometers of beaches and cozy bays - the resort attracts divers and snorkellers because of the crystal clear waters.
Also, the coast is famous for its gastronomic features, so there is a series of good restaurants where you can taste traditional Mediterranean cuisine.
In addition to the beautiful beaches, this coastline is home to several historical architectural centers, thanks to which one can trace the gradual historical development of this region, which is equally interesting.
Murcia is the capital of the province of the same name. This city is located 30 km from the Costa Calida and 75 km from Alicante.
The Cathedral de Murcia is the main attraction of Murcia, which traditionally represents the center of the old part of the city. This magnificent building was built over almost four hundred years, so if you look closely at the architectural design of the cathedral, you can see different styles of those times - from Gothic to Baroque. Another of the most popular and visited historical places is the Salcillo Museum, which was opened in honor of the brilliant sculptor. Here are collected the brilliant works of the master, which appeared in the 18th century.
During the Middle Ages, many fortifications were erected in Murcia. A vivid reminder of those times is the castle of Monteagudo located on a hilltop. The very first fortification in its place was built over a thousand years ago.
Moving away from historical buildings, in Murcia there is a natural reserve "Terra Natura", a walk through which will allow travelers to fully appreciate the diversity of local flora and fauna. A small zoo has been opened in the reserve, which is distinguished by an interesting design of enclosures. Nearby is a water park, so at any time visitors can leave the tropical thickets and go to try out a variety of water attractions.
There is another interesting aquarium in the city that is worth visiting with children - "Centro de Interpretacion del Mar CIMAR". It has an original design, this aquarium was opened in a beautiful yacht. During the tour, visitors are told about the most unusual marine life, as well as how pearls are formed and how they are mined.
The city is also famous for its traditional city and national celebrations. These are, indeed, very vivid spectacles, as local residents begin to prepare for all holidays in advance.
- Carnival in Águilas (Carnavales de Águilas) - February.
- Carthaginians and Romans (Fiestas de Carthagineses y Romanos) is held in Cartagena (Cartagena) from 17 to 23 September. The holiday is dedicated to events related to the history of the city. Hannibal (Carthaginians) founds, and Scipio (Romans) takes the city by storm.
- Holy Week (Semana Santa) in Jumilla or Holy Week - Catholic Easter (dates vary).
- Holy Week (Semana Santa) in Mula (Mula) or Holy Week - Catholic Easter (dates vary).
